Stock up on the peanuts and cracker jacks. Boston-based sports marketing firm, Charity Hop, in conjunction with Curt Schilling and the ALS Association of Massachusetts, will host the 6th annual 100 Innings of Baseball Spectacular. The game will be played Saturday & Sunday, September 5 & 6, 2009 at Adams Field in Quincy, MA and last the entire weekend. Ballplayers of all ages and abilities, from high school to amateur to semipro, are invited to participate in the historic contest.
This will be the 6th straight year this marathon game will be attempted. Through the first five years, more than $450,000 has been raised for ALS from this game. Fundraising this year will push the event total beyond half a million dollars raised!
First pitch will be thrown at 9AM Saturday, September 5. The contest will then continue with no breaks in the action until 100 complete innings are played, sometime Sunday afternoon, September 6. More than a hundred local players are expected to suit up and raise funds. Those wishing to play or contribute can sign up at www.100innings.com.
The 100 Innings of Baseball Spectacular is far more significant than just 91 extra innings. The game continues to bring awareness and raise funds to help eliminate Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), more commonly known as Lou Gehrig’s disease. 100 Innings of Baseball proceeds benefit the ALS Association MA Chapter and its Curt’s Pitch for ALS program – the initiative started by Red Sox pitcher Curt Schilling and his wife Shonda. Both Curt & Shonda were in attendance at the 2008 game, and Shonda has played several times over the years.
