Does anybody have advice for finding a new infielder's (shortstop/2nd base) glove? What should I be looking for and what brands should I consider?

Andy,

I saw your last name (Katz) and smiled because this is the link I am providing you for gloves. The site is http://www.katzgloves.com/  The thing I wanted to point out here is they break the gloves in for you so when you get them, the glove is ready to go.  They offer a few brands and even have their own brand.  I am sure they will help out with glove size recommendations for age/position if requested.  I am not affiliated with this at all, just providing a possible solution.

Thanks Jeff. Maybe I'll even get a discount for my last name!

Here is a site I checked out not too long ago... Good info. for what you're looking for.

Choosing Infield Gloves

Hey Andy:

I just got my Son a New Akadema glove and they are great. Easy to break in and he enjoys them. They usually offer discounts also if you go to their website and sign up for their emails. You can save 20% off.

He has a new 3rd basemans glove and a 1st baseman's glove.. Broken in within a couple of uses... I like their gloves and products. Good Luck.

Andy -

Is it for you or for a son?  I purchased a outfielders glove from Glovesmith last year for myself.

It was a pretty good deal.  For $ 139.00 I built it for what I wanted it to look like.

Turned out pretty good.  www.glovesmith.com

It's for me. Thanks for the info, Leo.

Hey Andy...I'm with Len on this.  I HIGHLY recommend Akadema gloves.  I have had 5 of them (in various models) now, and they have all been great.  I recommend them to my students as well.  I had a softball catcher who had a $220 Nokona and was dropping a lot of balls.  I recommended an Akadema, and it has made all the difference.

As for middle infield, I highly recommend the "Reptilian" design from Akadema.  It is a non-traditional design, but the thing works like a vacuum!

Check them out at www.akademapro.com

If you have other questions (or want to order), feel

Rawlings Heart of the Hide - 11.5" with the mesh back. Fantastic glove, good size for quick transfer @ either middle infield position, and the mesh back is the quickest break-in glove I've ever used. My 12 year old got one for Christmas in 2009. I used the Nokona glove gel 3 times and I caught his bullpen sessions with it for 2 months - he was using it in games the 1st week of March.
I've used Louisville Slugger, and have had players use Louisville Slugger.  The gloves are not as expensive as good quality.

Hey Andy!  You should look no further than Swenson Baseball Co. at www.swensonbaseball.com.  Hand made to your specs and gaining popularity each and every day!

Hi Andy, If you're interested in a Valle Pro Series glove I can give you a big discount. I Rep for Valle Baseball and can hook you up.
I would recommend the Limited Edition or the Custom Series (which you design) both made of Kip Leather.
Here's a link to the web site:

I have always been a fan of Mizuno.  I currentyly have the classic pro model GCP 66BX 11.5 Inches, higher end leather so alittle longer break in period but should last a while.  About a $190 glove watch ebay or other sale sites and you shoud get a deal on it.
