I would like to ask for some help from any of guys who have used any of these small wooden bat makers. I'm trying to find a small bat maker to use a bat source for a 18+ team that will be in a wooden bat league. So these are the companies I'm looking at.

Dinger Bats - Ridgeway,IL.
Probats - Fredonia,NY.
Phoenix Bats - Plain City,OH.
Trinity Bats - Fullerton,CA.
RLCBats - Marshell,VA.
Gone Batty Bats - Troy PA.

Please give me your input if you have used any of these Bat Makers.

Thanks,
Jim

The biggest difference I have found with these types of bats is the personal attention from the people that sell these bats. I think you are doing the right thing with the kids by working with a low-cap company that cares enough to match the kids up with bats they can handle. Seth at Phoenix Bats and Charlie from ProBats are great guys and will work with you. They are both members of CheckSwing as well!

Good luck!

Jim,

If you have some one that wants to do a little work, try Batsand Billets.com for unfinished wood bats. Maple $25, Ash $20. They have 7 models to choose from, Maple are -1 or -2, Ash -3 or -4 range. The picture shows the model 110's we purchased and used in our over 30 league for wood bat games. We only broke one bat, and I used my Maple and Ash model 110 all season. You could buy a couple and try for BP. Good Luck....

Hi Jim,

I highly recommend Birch Bats Company near Seattle, WA (www.birchbats.com). They are amazing to work with -- very personal service, excellent product appearance, and most importantly I love the pop! Another huge advantage is that you can get some great pieces of wood with a -4 drop. It's really nice to have a big barrel and still have a little bit lighter bat.

Seriously...check it out. Don (the owner) is a great guy. If you talk with him, tell him Tiff said to say "hi."

Best,

Tiff

Also, if you want a virtually indestructible cage bat (and training bat, for those making the transition from metal to wood), a VERY nice solution is the MetalWood bat (www.metalwoodbats.com). They're more expensive than a standard wood bat, but seriously...you will get a TON of use out of these...plus it teaches you to hit the sweet spot on wood.

Hope this helps!

Best,

Tiff

I definitely concur...I tried this company just to give it a shot and without high expectations and I was blown away by how fantastic that bats are. You can choose your bat colors, specify your drop, even personalize them no extra charge. They're rock hard and have plenty of pop. I think now they're 3 for $160 plus shipping. Pretty good deal.

I have used Probats.net and Charlie is top notch for customer service. Puts out a good product as well. I have a few others you may want to consider also.

www.nystixs.com Andre is a great guy and puts out a great product in ash, maple and birch.

www.wagnerbats.com Jeff Wagner is a local bat manufacturer here in Appleton, WI and has been making bats for over 10 years. All his bats are hand made by him and you can request anything and he'll make it if he can find it. Jeff makes bats in ash and maple and does many colors. Quick turnaround and good prices. Tell him Chris Patt recommended you.

www.talbotturnings.com Mike Rudolph is a furniture manufacturer that tried his hands at bat turning and does an excellent job. He offers a few models in maple and birch. He has the best finshes hands down IMO. HIs cherry finish is outstanding.

I have tried all and still rotate between them to this day. I have used bigger bat makers too but these guys care and take the time to make sure you get what you want.

Hope this helps.

Jim,

I am a wood bat manufacturer, my company is called World Bats. We're based in West Palm Beach, FL and make high-quality ash, birch, and maple bats. Please view our web site to learn more. I'd be happy to answer any questions you may have.

Sales pitch now complete, I have met the Dinger Bats crew. I can vouch for them as being quality people and having a quality product. I know their web site isn't the sexiest, but the owner runs a good company and he's a salt-of-the-earth kind of guy.

What kind of quantity are you looking for, if you still are, considering you posted this in October and its not Februrary. How did you come across these companies? I'd love to answer any questions you might have.

Regards,

Curt Rapp

Small wooden bat makers will give more personal service and in most cases a higher quality product. Attention to wood selection and the need to dump bad material is in the buyers favor. Tom at Barnstable Bat barnstablebat.com

Newest wood bat (Guayaibi) just hit the market from Mad Dog Bats. After two years of testing, professional players found it is stronger, denser and more flexible than ash or maple.
