In July, Bill, a fellow CheckSwing member, was diagnosed with stage 4 Melanoma Cancer. He has since started an aggressive treatment and is unable to work during this time. He and Wendy, his wife of 5 years, are raising two boys; Albert is 4 and Roman is 2 -1/2 years old.
Bill was born and raised in West Springfield, MA. He was a standout baseball player at West Springfield High School, and he went on to play college level ball at American International College where he continued to excel. An automobile accident derailed his dream to play professional baseball but not his ambitions to remain “in the game”. After his career at the management level with the Pittsfield Mets and the New Britain Red Sox of minor league baseball, Bill was hired by “Hall of Famer”, Frank Robinson to take his baseball talents out west. Bill moved to Arizona and worked in the front office for the San Francisco Giants triple A team, as well as the Arizona Diamondbacks. In 1996 Bill founded Predator USA, an organization focused on the training, development and coaching of youth baseball players. In 2009, Bill coached the United States Military traveling baseball team, and in 2010 Bill coached the Orleans Cardinals in the Cape Cod summer baseball league. Bill has dedicated his life to mentoring, and coaching thousands of children and young men throughout the United States. He continues to instill his passion for the game of baseball through these young men so that they too will strive to reach their greatest potential.
Any help that you can provide is greatly appreciated. If you are able to, please donate to help offset Bill's medical expenses, via his online donation page here at http://www.giveforward.com/billsandillo .
Also, if you can help in any other way such as donating equipment, autographed memorabilia, etc, please let us know. There is a local fundraiser being held in Bill's hometown on October 16, 2011 and we need raffle items. If you'd like to donate something for this, you can send the items to...
