Ladies and Gentlemen, Boys and Girls,

Welcome to the First Annual Western Mass Baseball League Awards Ceremony....

....The "Wembley's" , so to speak....




To commemorate both individual and team accomplishments, we proudly acknowledge the following recipients for the First Annual WMWBL Awards.

We recognize each person's dedication and contributions in order to further promote this League and ensure its future success.

So without further ado, let us announce the winners of the Inaugural Season Awards....



* The Lou Brock Stolen Base Champion : Paul Rossi, The Warriors


* The Edgar Martinez Award for Most Outstanding Hitter : Dean Christian, The Knights


* The Eiji Sawamura Award for The Best Starting Pitcher : Brian Boitano, Dirt Dogs


* The Nippon Rookie of The Year Award : Jason Carlander, The Brownstone Bullies


* The WMWBL Sportsmanship Award celebrating sportsmanship, including fairness, civility, honesty, unselfishness, respect and responsibility : Joey Butler, The Brownstone Bullies


* The Luis Aparicio Award is given annually to honor the Venezuelan player who recorded the best individual performance in WMWBL as voted on by sports journalists in Venezuela : Marty Langford, The Dirt Dogs


* The Willie Mac Award is awarded to the player who best exemplifies the spirit and leadership consistently shown by Willie McCovey and is voted upon by the players and coaching staff. This year's recipient : Dan Andrejack, The Knights


* The WMWBL Executive of the Year for outstanding service and commitment to the league : Donnie Edwards, The Senators


* The Roland Hemond Award for long-term contributions to scouting and player development: Gary Webber, The Knights


* The Commissioners Historic Achievement Award to that person who made a major impact on the sport of baseball : Johnny Grace, The Warriors


* The Hank Aaron Award for the Top Hitter in the League: Anthony Auclair, The Knights


* The Warren Spahn Award for the Best Left-handed Pitcher in the League : Matt Zeilinski, The Dirt Dogs


* The John T. McGovern Umpire Award to the umpire who has given a lifetime of dedication, service and expertise to the sport of baseball : Harry "Joe Pesci" Chadwick


* The Individual Performance of the Year : Frank Oppensiano, The Brownstone Bullies


* The Enzyte "Smilin' Bob" Woodsman of the Year : Kyle Grucci, The Dirt Dogs


* The Cy Young Award : Dave Lewis, The Knights


* The Babe Ruth Award for the Best performance in the Championship Series : Don Acus, The Dirt Dogs


* The Outland Trophy Winner : Patrice Courtois, The Brownstone Bullies


* The Hutch Award for Fighting Spirit and the Competitive Desire to Win : Steve Powers, The Senators


* The Defensive Player of the Year : Mike Swiatlowski, The Knights


* The DHL Hometown Heroes Award voted by WMWBL fans as the most outstanding player in the history of the franchise, based on on-field performance, leadership quality and character value : Kevin Guimond, The Warriors


* The Jack Stahr Umpire Award in recognition of hard work, professionalism, technical ability and cooperative attitude: Art Burke


* Best Baseball Player ESPY Award to that player adjudged to be the best in a calendar year: Ken Rainville, The Knights


* Home Run Champions : Jamie Chevalier, The Knights and Gavin Clarke, The Senators


* The Outstanding Pitching Performance of the Year: Gary Stewart, The Brownstone Bullies


* The Fleer Baseball Card Award for that person who displays a positive attitude and exerts extra effort for his team : Jay Buckley, The Warriors


* This Year in Baseball Rookie of the Year : John Saint Sauveur, The Brownstone Bullies


* The Tip O'Neil Award to that Canadian Player to have excelled in individual achievement and team contributions while adhering to high ideals against moral turpitude: Timmy Trombley, The Brownstone Bullies


* RBI Champion: Gavin Clarke, The Senators


* The Casey Award for the best Book or Publication : Kyle Grucci, The Dirt Dogs


* The All-Star Game Most Valuable Player : Ralph Cerrato, The Warriors



* The Baseball America Organization of the Year : The Connecticut River Valley Brownstone Bullies



* The Sporting News Comeback Player of the Year Award : Franny Nai, The Warriors


* The Marvin Miller Man of The Year Award for that player who's on field performance and contributions to his community inspire others to higher levels of Achievement : Dave Lauzier, The Knights



* Rolaids Fireman of the Year Award : Rick Lunsford, The Senators and Ron Viens, The Senators


* The Robert Halfman Memorial Rookie Umpire of the Year Award: John Jordan


* The J.G. Taylor Spink Award from the BBWAA to that person who best exemplifies high moral character: Greg Traska, The Dirt Dogs


* The Ford Frick Award to that person for major contributions to the game : Paulie Bag O'Donuts, The Senators


* The Lou Gehrig Memorial Award for that person who best exemplifies character and integrity both on & off the field: "Mayor Mike" Maier, The Warriors


* The Branch Rickey Award in recognition of exceptional community service. The criteria include being a role model for young people as evidenced by baseball accomplishments coupled with high ethical standards along with being an unselfish contributor to the community whose volunteer activities exemplify the motto, "Service Above Self." This years recipient is : Doctor Lance " Sir Lancelot " Overby, The Brownstone Bullies


* The Setup Man of the Year : Sean Mooney, The Dirt Dogs


* The Sporting News Player of the Year : Joe Noto, The Warriors


* The Matsutaro Shoriki Award in recognition to that person who contributed to the development of professional baseball greatly: Mr. Chiba, The Knights


* The 10th Player Award : Pam Anderson-Courtois and her Blonde Bunch, The Brownstone Bullies Fan Club


* The James Haran Memorial Umpire of the Year Award to the top baseball adjudicator: Al Neimic


* Nippon ERA Champion : Ron Viens, The Senators


* The Pete Rose Heart and Hustle Award in recognition to that player that not only excels on the field but best embodies the values, spirit and traditions of the Game : Randy Emerson, The Knights


* The Roberto Clemente Award for that person who best exemplifies the game of baseball, sportsmanship and community involvement and for his vital contributions to his team : Alan Maier, The Warriors


* The President's Award, given at his discretion, in recognition for excellence in officiating in both international and national levels : Phil Butler


* The Tony Conigliaro Award is presented to that player who best overcomes obstacles and adversity through the attributes of spirit, determination and courage. This year's recipient is : Mike " The Duke " Whately, The Senators


* The Lady Byng Memorial Trophy for that person who best displays high moral character and sportsmanship and above all, Gentlemanly Conduct : Fat Mac, The Brownstone Bullies


and lastly,


* The Kenesaw Mountain Landis Most Valuable Player Award given to the best all-around player for the 2009 WMWBL Season is :

Hey guys,

I firmed up the Southwick fields for the rest of the regular season. All games in Southwick will be played on the Varsity field except for the 7/12 doubleheader (which will be on the JV field). The varsity field is the one with the dugouts where we played on 5/31 against the Senators and Knights. The JV field is the field in front of the high school where the Bullies played the Warriors and the Dirt Dogs played the Warriors back on 5/3. I've updated the schedule with this info and have added the directions to the league page as well. Please pass along this info to your players.
