Thanks, Chris. I'm all for using wood especially in a USA bats/BBCOR world, but it's hard to justify a wood bat for nearly $200.

Bill, to answer your question, the price pf wood has gone up a little, but not nearly enough to justify a $175-$200 wood bat...

Hi!  First post.  I'm getting a new lathe soon that has the distance between centers to turn a bat, so I'm gonna make one for my nephew for his ManCave.  I was curious about something in the manufacture of a bat.  How does one change the weight of the bat in manufacture?  The only way's I can think of would weaken the bat to a dangerous level.  So, to all the experienced folks here, how do you make a bat of ## ounces?

Question:  I'm not asking as a criticism, but from a business perspective. I now see wood bats selling for $175 to almost $200 from many of the known brands and even some of the mid-sized companies.

Has the price of wood increased to the point that companies now have to charge that much to make a profit?

Buck.  I put a "free" ad on craigslist and have no shortage of people who come by and pick it up.  I just leave it outside in contractor garbage bags and it goes away!  Same with all my scrap lumber.
