Youth Tournament Philosophy?

Posted on October 9, 2014 at 12:00pm 10 Comments

I'm coaching a new 8U travel team. This Fall is our first season as a team. It's going very well.

This weekend we are playing in a tournament. Two games on Saturday, one game on Sunday. 18 innings of baseball.

Here is what I am debating:

1- Try our best to win the tournament? We have a good shot at winning the tournament. Playing well lately and we have as good a shot as any of the teams to win it. This means I play my best lineup most of the time.

"Play The Game The Right Way" (Jeter - Konerko)

With Derek Jeter and Paul Konerko retiring from MLB this week, you hear the phrase "he played the game the right way" quite a bit.

I hear many coaches and players say "you need to play the game the right way." It gets thrown around A LOT.

As you all know, I'm always looking for things to write or share here on CheckSwing. There are nearly 8,000 members in our baseball community here on CS. I've had the pleasure of meeting some of you in real life, but most of us communicate here on the site. I feel like I know many of you as you share your background in your CS profile and in our baseball discussions.  It's easy to see the personality of a person when they discuss the great game of baseball.

With that, I want…

I have been a couple times. It's the largest baseball convention in the world. Approximately 4,000 coaches attend. It's four days of non-stop baseball. A massive amount of baseball committees and their leaders, organization leaders, camp/clinic/batting cage owners, and just about every vendor you can imagine.
