Buck Watford commented on The CheckSwing Clubhouse's group Wood Bat Makers
"I was looking at some new bats some of the guys got shipped today.  Is it just me, or do the dip coatings some companies are putting on bats seen to be getting thicker and thicker?  I like shiney new toys too, but how thick can the coats…"

"I am doing a bat turning demo for the local HS and Juco industrial shop classes. Many of the baseball players will also be in attendance. The first day we will be discussing types of wood, grading, rules, etc. Then we will start with the basics…"

Buck Watford commented on Bill Stanton's blog post Open Letter To All Psycho Baseball Parents
"Love it! This should be manditory for parents of all sports. As an athletic trainer, I hear countless times a year about pushing a kid through an injury or pushing to recover from an injury and get back on the field because "he's got a…"

"How many of you guys have had your wood bats BBCOR certified.  I've seen several companies that are now having their wood bats certified and stamped.  Is this neccessary with wood?  What are the costs involved?"

Southern Bat Company replied to Buck Watford's discussion Complaints in the group Wood Bat Makers
"I agree.  Players seldom want to believe that they have poor pitch selection of a lack of hitting ability and therefore will often come back and blame the performance of the bat.  "

Christine Bednark replied to Buck Watford's discussion Complaints in the group Wood Bat Makers
"First of all dimpled balls are not to be hit with a wooden bat and they destroy metal bats too. A quality wood bat will last if the hitter uses it properly and is pitch selective. You will see some hitters rarely break a bat, others will go through…"

"Roland, great stuff.  I have a question though - how do you determine a bat has an internal knot?  Is there any way to tell before that bat goes out the door to the customer?  Also, I've had breaks in some of my maple bats that…"

"Thanks Roland.  I actually feel vindicated a little bit.  I decided not to replace the kids bat.  I saw him today taking BP in the cage.  His dad was there & talking about how he went out and spent a bunch of money on a new…"

Roland Hernandez replied to Buck Watford's discussion Complaints in the group Wood Bat Makers
". Great topic! . Batters always blame the bat - and call it "defective wood". I explain that it is HOW a bat breaks that determines if there was defective wood.   Bad angle slope-of-grain that shows the OVAL-SHAPE break...  IS…"

Complaints

Since I am new to the biz, but have developed a pretty good following among H.S. and Lower level college players in the area, I had a couple of questions for all the seasoned bat makers.
