What Bat Should I Buy?

Posted on April 19, 2014 at 9:51pm 1 Comment

I constantly get asked what bat should I buy? It doesn't matter if it's for youth baseball, girls fastpitch softball or men's, women's or co-ed softball.

[If you know of anyone asking this question, please forward this newsletter on to them.]

I get questions like these: Hi coach. Trying to decide what bat to get my daughter. She is in 10u competetive [sic] fastpitch softball. She has had her current bat for almost 3 years and I think is starting to…

Hi Coach,
I'd love to be able to send you a copy, but the publisher charges me the same as anyone else and I don't have any copies available. However, it's available through Amazon and there may be copies available on Abebooks (www.abebooks.com) and probably for a buck or two (used). I'd be interested on your take on it. What was interesting when it came out is that my son Mike and I were interviewed on over 40 radio shows, coast-to-coast and twice on MSNBC-News. (They called a few months ago to have us on again, and I turned them down. When they first interviewed us, I had no idea of their political bent, but now that I do, I'm just not going to appear on their network.) Mike's favorite was with Mr. T. and he stayed up all night practicing his "I pity the fool" speech, which was how he greeted him. And, we're both huge Giants' fans, so it was a thrill to be interviewed by former Giants' pitcher Mike Krukow.

Hi Andy, your book sounds like a good idea. I don't know if mine is what you're looking for. It's a spoof on LL and my son Mike and I cowrote it (his idea). We just took all the types we saw and made fun of them. As I'm sure you know, there are a lot of bully types involved in LL and I've always found humor defused these guys pretty quickly. When it was published, I had a lot of coaches, players and parents write me, thanking me for the laugh. Many coaches wrote me that they recognized themselves in some of the caricatures and were changing their methods as a result of seeing how they harmed kids, so that was gratifying. If you'd like more info, just ask.
