"This is a great topic.  Slider and slurve are often mistaken for each other.  A pitch that spins like a globe at any tilt is not a slider.  The average pitcher thinks that it is.  I thought this too until the greatest pitching…"

Update from Coach Corral - Happy New Year

Posted on January 25, 2010 at 10:12am 1 Comment

I'll give you my status update. Over the summer, I was offered the pitching coach job at Vanguard University (NAIA) here in Southern California, which I accepted. I took over a staff which had an ERA of 6.99 last season, which amazes me since proper pitch sequencing should cut that by at least 2.00 runs per game. The two high schools I had coached at prior had been Division 1 powerhouses with ample talent, so taking this job was a unique opportunity to turn the program around and establish my… Continue

Youth Tryouts Part 1

Posted on July 21, 2009 at 10:50am 1 Comment

Tryouts for my 13u teams began this Saturday.

I love tryouts. We hold them once a year and the turnout we get is tremendous. My coaching partner Chris and I meet at 6:30am for breakfast then get to the high school to set up the pitching machines and drag the infield.

The kids show up early with their parents and mill about the outfield, along the first base foul line, until a few brave, but proactive players begin to stretch and warm up. My former 12u players from last… Continue

Coach, thanks for the input! We have spent this year playing with 14U kids, some of them can throw some JUNK!!! When he remains disciplined at the plate, he hits everyone, however, that has been his struggle this year playing with the older kids! Thanks again!
