Evaluation day drills

Trying to set up evaluation day for our Rec league, and I'm wondering what other people do.  Traditionally, we've had 3 stations- hitting(in a cage), grounders, and pop-ups where the grounders/popup stations are also evaluating arm strength on the throws back to the coach. What do you guys do to get a good idea on a players skillset - that you can do for a very large group of kids in an hour or so? How do you rate the kids?  Coaches rate?  1-5?  1-10?  I'd love your input. Thanks,JesseSee More

"Definitely.  I just meant as opposed to putting kids on the bench, our league permits you to play with 5 in the outfield.  Everyone plays."

"Patrick,   it's just like fantasy football to be honest. You take the highest graded player and the lowest graded player and put them on the same team. When you get to the last team they now get 4 players and you go back up the teams like…"

"Question for Kip, how do teams turn out when you put 1 and 10 on the same team, 2 and 9, 3 and 8...?   I would think a team full of 4s and 5s will be the best team, as they're all pretty similar and no one's really terrible.…"

"Great, I like it. One thing that you said you guys do is something that I don't. Just because a kid is not as good or a sub I don't necessarily put him in the outfield. I make sure all of the kids get to play almost everywhere besides…"

"I agree, this isn't the best way to evaluate talent, but it might be the only way to get close to team parity. Hoping to have at least 4 coaches at each station.  We don't give the coaches kids names, just numbers.  Also, we…"

"I've been taking my kids to these evaluations since they were 4 and 5 years old and I have come to the conclusion that they are not the best way to select teams but maybe a start. The reason I say this is because I believe that it is really…"
