Bat speed

Coach Mike, Yes, I do stress the lower body as well. Our own son Ryan is one of the smallest and is a good contact hitter but I'm trying to have him drive the ball more as the opposing team outfield…

Here's an oldie but always a goodie. I have a team of 13U players with various size/strength and swings. Without trying to clone them all, I'm looking for something to simply increase their individua…

Suggestions/drills for teaching young (9/10) hitters to stay in against live pitching?

Joe, Thanks for the great tip. We have a travel team based out of your home town and that's one of the main points I have been trying to get across. I've seen many stride/swings and it really has th…

Thanks PO1 Baseball, I believe you're right on with this. The class he took on linear was close to 5 years ago. Can you refeshen the steps to be linear in the load? Thanks Joe

False, True hitting is a blend of both...this arguement is at the core of hitting just like the Nature vs Nurture arguement in Psychology. Just like in Psychology the answer really is both! If you are only doing one or the other you are only using a…

Charlie Lau only hit .300 once in his long career, the year he was injured and only had 12 at bats and in 11 seasons he batted under .200 8 times. So what did Chgarlie Lau really knoe\w about hitting .300?

Rotational is the best way....there is less head movement....also the upper half stays back and the hands get out faster...if the upper half moves forward then the ball will increase velocity. The ultimate goal of any hitter is to hit the ball harde…

I used to take a ton of different variations of bp witha donut on the bat. Then I would take it off and my power through contact was unreal. Made me feel like I was hitting a golf ball.

Great to hear! Your son will learn to "drive" the ball as he gets a little bigger and matures a little more. Nothing wrong with being a contact guy!!! Let me know how he's doing. Also you can read my blog posts here

Coach Mike, Yes, I do stress the lower body as well. Our own son Ryan is one of the smallest and is a good contact hitter but I'm trying to have him drive the ball more as the opposing team outfielders play in on him quite a bit! Also, on a persona…

Hello, My good friend and strength coach, Brandon Smith says that running short sprints (10-20 yards) is an easy way to get young kids stronger, and increase bat speed without taking hours and hours of BP and hitting drills. Sprints will increase l…

Kyle It's not unusual to see players who switch have difficulties. Linear hitters can hit for power but it requires a consistent slashing down into the ball (like a karate chop). At launch the bat must never drop below the armpit. Once you have got…

Great info, Fred. I've been thinking about this a lot lately. I was taught to be a linear hitter as a kid and am a pretty good hitter. In 2008, I led my team in hits, avg, and most other offensive categories. Since then, I've been working to change…

I am a linear hitter but then again I learned to hit back in the sixties. Truth is you have to let the players natural swing dictate what style you choose. Just like pitching, matching the wrong hitting approach with natural swing mechanics can yiel…

Like I said earlier this is a great drill..............

Not really on this drill Mike, yes hips/legs are really important in hitting. But this drill is to teach them to lead with there hands and make contact out in FRONT in the More Contact/Pull/Best Power zone. Which I refer to as the ( CPB Zone) Alot o…

Remember to make sure the kids use the lower body as well, this is a great drill for hand speed which is a minor muscle are of the swing. The lower half is where all the real power is for the swing. Just a reminder.......great drill.
May 6
Yes I'm sorry about that. It is a Soft toss drill from the front and the side(inside corner), Hitting the ball with the Butt of the bat only, It's a Quick hands drill, which will give you more bat speed, and hand to eye coorkination. Just remember,…
