Mark Cassler replied to David LeVine's discussion Rule question
"The run doesn't count because the appeal at 2nd was the 3rd out. Since this was one play you can't count the run. This was not a time play. Think of this. Same situation and your batter hits a line drive to the pitcher. The pitcher catches…"

"I misread the situation and was looking at it from a groundball point of view.  Since it's a line drive, I am going with the ball is dead and the runner is out since the runner has a responsibility to get out of the way of the fielder…"

"David Be careful. This play is tricky. Remember that one of the four answers is correct. The other ones are all wrong. Mark"

"Hi David, 95% of the time it's a dead ball. The runner is out and batter is awarded first base and any other runners advance only if forced to do so.  EXCEPT if the ball went through or within arm’s length of another infielder and no…"

"The ball is in play and both runner and batter is safe.  The runner on 2nd is safe since he is on the bag.  If I am not mistaken, rules states if a ball passes a fielder and hits a baserunner, the runner is not out."

I was a ground ball pitcher. My catchers always said my fastball felt very heavy. Being a lefty I worked both sides of the played. My fastball had a natural tail and I had a good curve and change up.

It's cool to see someone join as an umpire. I have not seen an umpire profile on here yet. I umpire college in the spring, but will hang it up for my men's league season...by then, I've had all the ego I care to handle anyway.
