I am always curious as to what everyone concentrates on as a youth player and coach.  I personally feel that pitchers get left behind early and often which it should be your main focus as a player…Continue

I am a firm believer in developing athletes.  There are certain skills that get passed by with year round baseball.  Plus, burnout is a big concern with year round baseball and over-use injuries.  I…Continue

What is your timing mechanism?

Posted on March 24, 2010 at 10:01pm 10 Comments

Wanted some feedback from some coaches, instructors, and parents. Now I always tell my kids and parents that the basics of the swing are the same at every level of baseball LL to MLB. But, there are some variations of "getting ready, into a launch position, etc". I would like to know what some guys use or teach as their timing mechanism.

I constantly hear a few instructors in my area teach one method and that is all.....the leg kick. And if you do not do it this way your doing it…

Thanks for the advice, I appreciate it. My freshman year at Michigan State I was the setup guy and had decent numbers for a freshman. However, after a coaching change I transfered to a D2 in Oklahoma and earned the number 1 spot in the rotation. I had a decent year and considering our conference is known for large hitting numbers due to the wind in this part of the country and the ball parks are quite small I wasn't too upset with them. Im actually closing this year though.
