I'd like to take advantage of your knowledge of the game by addressing your question, and asking

           a few of my own.

To begin,I think you will agree,it's important what you practice, not just that you spend 24 hrs a

           day practicing.

For example, the best physical conditioning program for the execution of an athletic skill is one that

           incorporates each fully…

WE CONDITION AND TRAIN YOUNG BASE/SOFTBALL PLAYERS TO HIT.

FOR REASONS AS OF YET UNKNOWN TO US .... THE COACHES OF PLAYERS WE WORK WITH

FREQUENTLY SEEM TO RESENT OUR RELATIONSHIP WITH THEIR PLAYER.

IT WOULDN'T BOTHER US IF IT WEREN'T FOR HOW IT AFFECTS THE…

Rod,

I read your bio. That has to have been a blast to work with the same group for so many years. That doesn't happen often these days. I can still name the kids on my first team when I was 7 years old because we all still played together through American Legion. Good dun

Some coaches still favor their own kids (and their friends).  That is a different issue.  Travel ball doesn't change that if it happens.

I have nothing against travel ball per se.  My son does it, and I've coached it. But the emphasis should not be on only the top players.  It is a fact that the travel season keeps starting sooner, and even during the rec season, some travel teams are practicing together, rather than with their rec teams.

My point is this.  The vast majority of players who start playing at 6-8 will never play ball past high school - in fact, the vast majority won't even play at that level.  Too many parents have fantasies about what they could have been, and what their kid can be. I sincerely believe that is the biggest reason why so many players drop out.  Our goal should be to keep as many players playing as long as possible.

I'm usually a trivia whiz, but I don't know the answer, other than the obvious similarlities.

Let me know the answer, and I'll have a tough one for you.
