Pitching Vertically

Working the vertical plane is something that is highly effective. If a pitcher, with good command, is consistently locating low then it opens the door for a strikeout up in the zone. He can manage to rack up a high number of strikeouts relying on his fastball as his primary strikeout pitch. Working the vertical plane consistently focuses a hitter’s attention low in the zone setting him up for a pitch up that he perceives good to hit.  …See More

Good Fielding Drill

Stationary ball drill: Works on the footwork needed to be a smooth infielder-Instruction: Ball is placed on the ground in front of the player. The player should try and position himself just a little bit outside the path of the ball. As the ball gets within reach the player should complete the footwork as listed. The left foot should be a little bit behind the right foot in order to create an angle and path toward the target. This angle, therefore, allows the player to receive a bad hop off of…See More

Hitting approach

“What should I be thinking when I walk up to the plate?”A lot of hitters are being told from a young age to look to hit the fastball and adjust to anything off-speed. This is a great approach…if you are trying to do a job such as move a runner over into scoring position. The reality of it is that this approach is unsustainable. When pitchers start throwing harder and the MPH differential between their fastball and their off-speed becomes greater, then this approach simply does not work. If a…See More

“What should I be thinking when I walk up to the plate?”

A lot of hitters are being told from a young age to look to hit the fastball and adjust to anything off-speed.
