Hitting techniques/drills

I coach American Legion Baseball in Missouri and our team has a dad that teaches the Sparky Parker hitting techniques and their batting averages and OBP has dropped to last on the team. Continually poping the ball up. Can someone help me understand this technique? It saddens us as coaches to watch the boys fail. Should I try to help the boys or stay out of the way.Brad LongleySandlot BaseballSee More

What is expected from a week long youth baseball camp?

We are looking at opening a youth baseball camp and want to know what parents and High School coaches want their players to know when they get them back.  We have found at the High School or even American Legion level, most players we get at 14 or 15 do not know basic baseball. Granted, we have been blessed with several players that know the game well and have been taught the basics.  We would like to know what the coaches at the next level (whatever that may be) want youth baseball schools to…See More

HELP! Mickey Owen Baseball Camp Miller Missouri

Mickey Owen baseball School has been shut down for three years now. 2 years ago, we leased the facility and ran youth baseball tournaments. We could not get a lease last year (2010). But, in 2011, we are going to run tournaments again as well as, a couple of day camps, and summer leagues.  Just wondering if anyone has experience ressurecting old baseball camps or facilities. This facility has provided baseball for young boys for 50 years and it is devistating to see it shut down. Please visit…See More

Hey brad,

It is good to see you are on Check Swing, I noticed your name on the membership group of names last year and have been looking for you to submit some helpful comments. From those twenty plus years of coaching youngsters how to play baseball you certainly must have many positive comments to bring to the table. If I had the finances or knew someone who had the finances and interest I certainly would jump right in there and see to it that the complex would not go under. I thought I had some backing which did not pan out. I have a lot of field and maintenance exp. clinic, camp, league and tournament experience with all age groups so if you need some highly exp. and knowledgeable help give me a call. here in Springfield I currently coach in the summer college league at Meador park, in the high school fall ball league and will be coaching in the Republic, Mo. Legion program. Would you like for me to see if John Mayberry and former head coach at Johnson County, Kansas Community College, Sonny Maynard would like to attend your clinics and camps? If so let me know.

If you do not receive the info. you need on long toss let me know I can tune you in to some excellent scientific info. and different ways to execute the drill. If you want lets meet, sit down and talk some baseball, I have numerous pictures and some great overall baseball info. which should be of interest to you.

The best of luck with the complex and your baseball there.
