Swedish professional baseball consists of 8 teams all over Sweden. They are the Alby Stars, Gefle Baseball Club, Karlskoga Bats, Leksand Lumberjacks, Rattvik Butchers, Stockholm Baseball Club, Sundbyberg Heat, and Tranas Baseball Club. All the teams in the league are actually pretty even. The only difference that each team has is depth of pitching. The pitchers in the league average about low to mid 80's. However everyone in the league can hit and most Swedish ball players are lefties due to playing hockey when they were younger. This years regular season standings with Karlskoga, Rattvik, Stockholm, and Sundbyberg making the playoffs. However Tranas and Leksand finished just behind Sundbyberg in the standings to make the playoffs.

Swedens league is one of the top leagues in Europe. Some say it rivals the Spanish League, Austrian League, and even the French League. It doesn't compare to the Italian or Holland League, but it is competitive.

This season was my first season of professional baseball in Europe and it went well. Coming from semi-professional ball in New York before hand definitely prepared me for the level of competition that Europe has to offer. I finished as one of the top players in Sweden. I finished 7th overall in average with a .395 batting average. I also had 15 runs scored, drove in 22 RBI's, hit 8 doubles and stole 7 bases in just 22 games played. Overall I feel that it was a productive season with a lot of down time. Now I'm looking forward to the next season in Australia starting in September.

Hejjjjj Sean!

I played in Sweden also, but in softball, for Enköping. Sounds like you and I are running parallel courses. After I played in Sverige, I went to Australia (Brisbane) to play, then back to Holland for a season. I play Women's Baseball (not softball) now at the world-class level. I play in the MSBL with all men here in Spokane when I'm not playing women's tournaments. I played hardball in an international tournament in Hong Kong this last year. If you get a chance to go...do it! It was a great experience. In Sweden (softball) I ended up being third in BA, 1st in OBP (they walked me -- 32 IBBs -- set a new Swedish record!), and 2nd in HRs. I was the top fielder in the country (playing SS) with a .979 fielding avg. I had fun there too!

Who did you play for? Did you know Arend Spel by any chance? He was a pitcher for Sundyberg I think. Arend was the son of my host family in Holland! : ) Nice guy.

Anyways... take care, and tell me where you played, if you knew any of the girls from Enkoping or even Alby (I knew a few...I was the Junior National Softball Team assistant coach in 2006).

Take care --

Tiff
