CheckSwing

The Premier Baseball Social Network for Players, Coaches, Scouts, and Umpires

I was thinking about writing this blog post a few weeks ago, then I just watched the videos that new CheckSwing member, Zadlbay posted of the guy in the dugout eating the bug... and his teammates roaring with laughter. (we need that bug eating player to join CheckSwing :-)

Baseball, because of the pace of the game, the time in the dugout and time spent practicing lends itself to goofiness, pranks and some very funny banter among players and coaches.

There is baseball jargon that is a language all of it's own.. and is often hilarious.

There are numerous conversations going on at any time during a game because of the various "games within the game" that happen on the ballfield.

I'd love to hear from the CheckSwing crew about some of your funniest baseball stories... pranks... baseball jargon/sayings, etc.

This will be fun!

Have you seen the Red Sox bullpen playing the spoons against the top of the bullpen bench? How about the time that the Sox taped Pedro to the dugout support post. All I could think of is a stray line drive taking him out. The downtime definitely is a huge part of the game and makes it alot of fun to be a player.

The story behind that video of mine...We were playing in a tournament in Arkansas and we won our game handily and quickly. The next field over was deciding our opponent for the championship and they were in a dogfight. It was 105 degrees that day and we had nothing to do but wait. I was sitting next to the would-be eater and noticed the beetle struggling along. One of the guys stepped on him, but with cleats on, he just injured it. Out of nowhere, Jake (eater) said "you pull enough money together, I'll eat that thing." Let the bidding begin! It only took $30, but there you go! I think after it was all over...he felt he was underpaid. We went back to defend out title and guys there were asking about the video having heard all about it.
