Australian Baseball

Playing in Australia is a legit experience. You play against top quality players that are signed from pro teams back at home in the U.S.from Independent clubs and big league clubs. The competition, surprisingly enough is pretty legit. The pitching varries however you get guys that throw from mid 80's to low 90's. There aren't many Americans that play in the league due to clubs not paying for flights over here. The teams that do have imports usually don't have any players that are signed. In Queensland you play 2 games, 1 on Friday and 1 on Sunday, both 9 inning games. Practice ranges from 2 - 3 times a week. Getting used to International rules are a little hard. Pitchers are allow to go to their glove at any point and your allowed to throw to an unoccupied base. Besides those rules playing here in Australia is an amazing experience.

Thanks for sharing your experience, Sean. How are the fields? Are they mostly stadiums - groomed before the games? Do you play on real or artificial grass?

Do the games draw many fans?

The fields are actually pretty good. You have your pretty standard fields but then you have that are college and pro quality. No stadiums though, mainly parks with real grass. You get a few fans but its pretty cool to be all in the newspapers and see your scores on the underline of the sports news.

So what exactly are you doing in Australia? Is is just a summer league for fun or is it like a foreign pro league?
