Baseball coaching tips of the day
Understand that when you show a sense of urgency, players often become tentative and play not to lose. The added tension leads to mistakes that make coming out ahead difficult.
Coaching anxiety turns up the most in playoff games, against biggest rivals, and in tight games. Many coaches display panic behavior before players have even thought about the gravity of situations. Coaches, and parents for that matter, add an emphasis, intentional or not, by changing their mannerisms.
Although it’s natural to want to win, don’t let your behavior affect your team’s chances of winning. Calm but focused coaches have the best chance of having confident and relaxed athletes, especially with the younger aged teams.
