The Premier Baseball Social Network for Players, Coaches, Scouts, and Umpires
The game of baseball is constantly evolving, are you evolving along with it?
With the advent of the additional Wild Card game the baseball purist has long ago been pushed to the side as the game continues to evolve and change. The recent move at the high school and college level to restrict bats, the flourishing of more and more competitive travelling teams, and the ever bigger and quicker athlete has changed the game of baseball exponentially in the just the past five years. Have you kept up? The bat restriction in itself has changed the pace and focus of the game. Are you working harder on your defense as the game shrinks and the ball is staying inside the fences more? Are you working on your school program to keep the more talented kids playing for their local team during the summer rather than seeking better competition elsewhere? Finally, the quality of the athlete has improved but are we keeping them grounded and realistic about the game they are playing? Hype and the lure of scholarships, and perhaps glory beyond school, are pressures we need to help players manage. Be honest with your players about opportunities and help them be honest with themselves. Above all let them have fun playing the game, the business of the sport will take care of itself as long as the right attitude is taken on the field.
