No one expects you to be as inspirational as the great coaches. But, you should look for motivational quotes and use them or adapt them for your players. I am always looking for words that will resonate with players.
A storefront for clothing had this one posted outside their shop today. “Don’t expect things to change if you are not willing to make any.” Bingo! Something I will use tonight with my students.
Below I try to portray the same message as the famous quotes but in my words.
“Things turn out best for those who make the best of the way things turn out.”
– Coach John Wooden, Basketball.
My words – “You have to learn to roll with the punches but learn from them.”
“Nobody who ever gave his best regretted it.”
– Coach George Halas, Football
My words, "Give your best, so you are happy with what you see when you look in the mirror.”
“Do not let what you cannot do interfere with what you can do.”
– Coach John Wooden, Basketball
My words, “Play to your strengths, practice your weaknesses.”
“Difficulties in life are intended to make us better, not bitter.”
– Coach Dan Reeves, Football
My words, “Embrace and enjoy the process, and play for the love of the game.”
