Baseball coaching tips of the day
Times have changed since most coaches experienced "tough guy" coaching. It rarely works now days because many kids are sensitive with all the pressures on them, so be careful of intimidating tactics.
Never forget that for sensitive kids, it only takes one bad experience with a coach to lose desire. It's not that you have to be perfect but make it a goal to never be the reason a player doesn't want to play anymore.
It’s normal to sometimes be frustrated with athletes. But that frustration is not an excuse to use words or displays that attack a player’s character. Words that attack effort levels and desire make most players defensive, less willing to listen, and timid. After a while of hearing negativity, an athlete will wonder if playing is even worth it. Learn to say things that describe the action, without wounding a person’s self-worth.
Athletes need time and patient coaches to figure their desire levels out on their own.
