The Yankees just agreed to a 3 team 7 player deal sending Ian Kennedy to the D-Backs along with Phil Coke and Austin Jackson to the Tigers. In return they get CURTIS GRANDERSON to patrol center field next season. Given Granderson's swing and power to the pull side I expect him to do HUGE things in that unbelieveable Yankee lineup next season.
I hate you George!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Well Dave Dombrowski (GM of the Tigers) thanks once again for shoving some more moves up the A$$ of the fans of Detroit. It was bad enough that Placido Polanco signed with the Phillie's last week and will play 3rd base. Polanco was probable the most consistence player for the Tigers over the last 3 years, solid 2nd basemen and good #2 hitter (2009-.285avg,2008- .307avg,2007-.341)

But now you trade away 2 players (because your trying to find money pay players you signed to big money contacts and you can't dump) that could be the future of this team. Edwin Jackson (just here for one year) had 33 stars (13-9) with one complete game and a 3.62 ERA. A nice addition to the pitching staff and looks like he can just get better. But you trade away Curtis Granderson, WHAT THE HELL WERE YOU THINKING!!!! Granderson as the led off hitter (most of the time) in his 6 year career in Detroit with 674 games played had 2579 plate appearances with 702 hits,125 doubles, 57 triples and 102 HR. with 299 RBI.
As good as Granderson is a player, he is a better person. With all his Charity work and his own Grand Kids he won player of the year from his fellow MLB players for his Charity work. He has done more for the Metro Detroit area than any other Professional player in his short career here than I can remember. I wish him all the best and when the Yankees come to Detroit on May 10 for a 4 game series you can bet Grandy will get a standing O from the Detroit fans.

Dombrowski gambled 2-3 years ago by taking on several big contracts and lost bigtime. Didn't he see the financial state of the Detroit area? People are not buying tickets. The Tigers were giving away tickets last year in hopes of filling seats and making some concession money. Advertisers stopped working with them because of lack of cash. That enormous General Motors sign that sits in CF is no longer paid for by GM. The owner left it up as a nice gesture.
Now the Yanks come in, take on Granderson's contract and get a good player for very little.

Tigers are still stuck with owing Dontrelle Willis and Magglio Ordonez a combined $30 million in 2010.

Wow I didn't realize they owed that much Bill!!!!! That's pretty crazy and they did take a big gamble and lost but I'll tell ya, I thought they had a damn good team a couple years ago. It's unfortunate they had to tear it down.

Jim,

Sorry :-) I gueses your a Tigers fan. Polanco is one fo my favorite players in baseball and he is an AMAZING 2 hole guy. Not too many guys can handle a bat like he can. As a Mets fan It sucks seeing him go to the phillies because he really does make them that much better. As far as Granderson as a person, I played summer ball for the El Dorado Broncos with two guys (Dave Haenel and Mike Hughes) that played at University of Illinois Chicago with him. They said not only was he the hardest worker on the team but he was an unbelievable guy as well. It's a shaem to lose both of those guys inside of a week.

Yes Eugene, Polanco is one of my favorite hitters also. The guy can flat out hit, goes were the pitch is,inside, outside and has a little pop in his bat for a homer ever once in a while. He is so patient at the plate and has great bat control. He's a old school hitter, I mean he chocks up on the bat about a inch and a half or two inches so he can have great bat control. You don't see that much anymore, every body swings for the fences no matter what the situation is.

As far as Granderson, he is a future Hall of Famer in my opinion. He's only 28 years old and I think is one of the top center fielders right now. He doesn't have the stongest arm but you have to on the top of your game to patrol center field at Comerica Park and did a great job of that. But he is most know for his Charity work in metro Detroit, he has his own Charity called Grand Kids and really big in education. He find time to do Charity work even when he's playing during the season, he was just this past weekend at a Charity event for the National Kidney Foundation of Michigan.

So yes Eugene they will be missed, but we're used to getting screwed here in Detroit. Don't forget we have the Lions......

hahahahahahaha........yes you do have the Lions and that's seriously hysterical!!! Aren't both of Granderson's parents teachers????
Comment by Jim Hawkins on December 10, 2009 at 9:08am
Yes your correct, both of his parents are school teachers and that's what his Charity (Grand Kids) is all about education. His parents did a great job raising a young man with his priority's straight. Great job Mr.& Mrs. Granderson......

Actually, it wasn't George Steinbrenner who pulled off that deal, it was his right hand man, Andrew Cashman.
